Gentle Paws & Friends, a privately run shelter for strays, discarded pets and former breeding dogs, has prepared a proposal for the Ministry of National Development's Pet Ownership and Stray Management Review.
In it, it highlights the main problem of overpopulation of stray dogs, and makes five core recommendations:
1. To
eradicate unethical capturing of stray dogs
2. To
provide support for the stray sterilisation program
3. To
review and eradicate HDB’s blanket prohibition on mongrels
4. To
review and eradicate HDB dog policy that is based on the size of the dog
5. To
review licensing of breeders and implement a system to ensure that breeding is
done ethically
