Till 2359, 23.10: Last day to join in Gentle Paws & Friends' proposal to MND

Gentle Paws & Friends, a privately run shelter for strays, discarded pets and former breeding dogs, has prepared a proposal for the Ministry of National Development's Pet Ownership and Stray Management Review.

In it, it highlights the main problem of overpopulation of stray dogs, and makes five core recommendations:

1. To eradicate unethical capturing of stray dogs

2. To provide support for the stray sterilisation program

3. To review and eradicate HDB’s blanket prohibition on mongrels

4. To review and eradicate HDB dog policy that is based on the size of the dog

5. To review licensing of breeders and implement a system to ensure that breeding is done ethically

Find out more at
http://gentlepaws2010.blogspot.com/2011/10/we-are-their-voice.html

If you agree with their views and wish to add your name to the list of signatories, drop them an email before 2359 hrs on Sunday, 23.10.11.

[rehomed!] ADOPT: Loving Energetic Dooney - 8yo male Pedigree Springer Spaniel

Dooney is my name and fetching is my game! I am a purebred Springer Spaniel, one of the rarities in the shelter.

People may think that I may be slightly old for adoption but I say that’s only because they do not know me well enough. I am bustling with energy and I am proud to say I am the Rooney of “Fetch”. Throw me a ball and we can have lots of fun. The volunteers have also recently discovered my love for swimming on my first Furry Day and I absolutely love my long walks. You can say that I am a canine triathlete and more!

Come see me in action and you will realize that I have plenty of life in me. Oh, did I mention how much I love tummy rubs? Please do drop by to play with me and don’t forget to reward my good performance with a long satisfying tummy rub session.

Check out photos of Dooney swimming and playing "Fetch" at GPF Adoption Portal.

[rehomed!] ADOPT: Jojo - loving, gentle, timid 1yo s'pore girl, doesn't bark, loves sitting beside or on laps, gets along with dogs

THis is Jojo.

SHe is one year old, vaccinated and sterilized. She was adopted by a family living in a landed property at 3 months old. However a member of her adoptive family finds her "too obedient", "not fierce enough, "for being a female" and kept her in a cage small enough for her to stand, sit and sleep in. The family member complained to us and demanded her removal otherwise he would throw her out to the streets or leave her to starve to death.

Behaviour:
- Does NOT bark.
- Gentle but timid.
- Has been paper-trained.
- Very loving towards people and able to get along with dogs.
- Loves sitting beside or on people's lap.

[rehomed!] ADOPT: Gubbio - sweet, docile 4yo male local cross of medium build

Gubbio is a 4 years old, male local cross breed that was rescued from the cold street and is now looking for a home. He will be neutered by end of Dec or early Jan and is very easy to take for walks as he is very docile, not jumpy or overly excited. Gubbio gets along very well with people, including kids as well. He also gets along well with other dogs depending on the temperament of the other animal.

Please help Gubbio find the home that he deserves. On all fours, he only measures up to knee height, so it a small-medium built cross bredd dog. He is very docile and good even for families with young children.

Gubbio has a stocky medium build, not a large breed. He may not have the cutest look of a dog but he will definitely touch your heart when this sweet boy is given a second chance.

ps. Gubbio is named after the town which St Francis of Assissi, patron saint of animals and champion of all animals and the environment, once lived.

Exerpt from the story taken from the Fiorreti (a collection of stories and legends about St Francis): " ...Then Francis led the wolf into the town, and surrounded by startled citizens made a pact between them and the wolf. Because the wolf had “done evil out of hunger”, the townsfolk were to feed the wolf regularly, and in return, the wolf would no longer prey upon them or their flocks. In this manner Gubbio was freed from the menace of the predator. Francis, ever the lover of animals, even made a pact on behalf of the town dogs, that they would not bother the wolf again. It is also said that Francis, to show the townspeople that they would not be harmed, blessed the wolf."

[rehomed!] ADOPT: Kendalle (Ken Ken)- sweet, friendly, well-behaved 3+yo male bearded collie cross aka shaggy dog

Kendalle, the lovely three year plus cross bearded collie aka shaggy dog is looking for a home. He is sweet and friendly with people and children and has a marvellously happy healthy appetite.

Ken Ken, as we affectionately call him gets along wonderfully well with cats and can be seen licking little kitties just like a proud daddy would. Our shaggy boy also get along well with dogs, big and small as long as they do not challenge him because he is an alpha dog. If the present dogs are mild mannered it will do Kendalle fine as he takes pride in his pack, just like a big Lion leader.

Kendalle found abandoned, a thin, boney sorry sight of a dog with lifeless eyes and when brought to the vet discovered to have heartworms. He responded very well to treatment, the vet had full praise for him for his temperament and docility. He is now in the prime of health, has been sterilised and we discovered, Ken Ken is an awfully good jumper.

Ken simply loves jumping and we know if a potential owner has plans for agility classes, you have found yourself a champion hurdler. Kendalle is also paper trained and contrary to myths that big dogs don't do well in apartments, Ken is actually pretty good in one as he knows how to behave indoors and outdoors. Ken enjoys lying next to you watching the lastest K-drama or listening to Gold 90.5 as much as he loves a good walk. He is a good walker, sometimes in his excitement he may pull but retracts as he listens to your commands

He is not boisterous but a well behaved, happy and friendly dog, with much zest for life and a great big appetite for food, treats and lots of cuddles. In return he gives you his big heart, his shaggy bear-like head and life-long loyalty and affection. At less than three, he has seen his share of misery and shed much tears at being left behind and left to die, so now he takes upon every minute to enjoy his life and endeavour make yours happy ones with his nudges for pats on his big shaggy head.

Kendalle is not suitable for HDB as he is big in size, around a Retriever's but he will adapt well in a condo and of course a house with garden will be perfect, as long as there is no low gates and fences. Remember our young big boy is a champion jumper, of course.

More photos of Kendalle can be found in http://homelessinseletar.blogspot.com/search/label/lovely%203%2B%20yrs%20cross%20bearded%20collie

[rehomed!] ADOPT: Sweetpea - affectionate, playful male kitten paralysed in hindlegs with great fighting spirit

Hi, I've got a kitten who is paralysed in his hindlegs. He needs his bladder to be expressed 2x times. Otherwise he's a superbly affectionate kitten & playful.

Previously adopted last minute says can't adopt him & suggested another person to adopt him. But this person is a stray cat/dog feeder & has stray dogs @ home. I feel its not a suitable enviornment for Sweetpea.

Sweetpea was meant to be put to sleep by rescuers who found him struggling under the void deck. However, he was given a 2nd chance as hes got a fighting spirit (this little boy went thru many surgeries).

I am trying very hard to find him a good loving hm that he deserves. Besides being paralysed in his hindlegs, Sweetpea is not deterred. He plays like any other kitten & has so much of love to give. It breaks my heart to send him to place he doesn't belong.

[rehomed!] ADOPT: Dillon - energetic, playful 1+yo large male local breed

DOB: 31 Oct 09

Good with Children and animals

Understand Basic commands

Vaccinated and Sterilized

My name is Dillon. I just turned one this Halloween. My life has been short but I have lived to see much.

When I was just a puppy, I was adopted by a family who felt that I pooped too much. To rectify this problem, they fed me one small meal a day.

When they decided to return me to the shelter, I was reduced to a bag of bones. It took a long time for me to recuperate. Even now, I can be found having a quiet moment to myself, staring off solemnly into space.

That aside, I’m still quite an active dog. I love a good tussle with my brother Daelle. I can get along well with most other dogs. I also love human attention and affection. I am happy to sit beside you to allow you to cuddle me all day.

If you want some doggie love in your life, please think of me, because here I am thinking of YOU.

I get along fairly well with other dogs. When I see a dog enjoying a cuddle with a human, I often try to join in I am quite an active dog and I need to go for one to two walks a day.

My best friend in the world is my brother Dillon. You will often see us fooling around at the shelter. I have lots of love to give.
