[rip] FOSTER/ADOPT : Scrumpy - Super affectionate male spayed cat with FIV/Kidney problems

Scrumpy the friendly black cat usually resides near the neighbourhood carpark area, most of the time hiding under the parked cars or lorries, looking sick, skinny and drooling.

I managed to catch him one night and sent him to Mount Pleasant (Sunset Way) the next morning, Vet Cheryl Ho attended to Scrumpy and found out he got the following problems:

1) FIV positive
2) Kidney problems (not Acute)
3) Open wounds on his tongue, thus he can't eat much and eat well
4) Fleas and furmites, coz he can't use his tongue to clean himself up
5) White blood cells going up

Currently he's still recuperating at the clinic, since then they have given him shots and medicines to tackle the fleas/furmites and tongue's open wounds problem, booast up immune system and also drip him to keep him hydrated. Vet says he's showing improvement on his appetite, fleas problem subsiding and I can see he looked much brighter and alert than before.

Vet says since he's FIV positive it's better he not roam back as stray again coz it might spread to other community cat should they get into serious fights. I am against putting him to sleep coz he's not that sickly and clearly shown strong will to live a good second life.

I hope to find a good fosterer/adopter to keep Scrumpy, coz he's a cat with special needs, he would require an experienced person to take care of him. After he's discharge, he would have to be on IV drip once every two days (or as and when he's not drinking enough water and dehydrating), he would have two kinds of pills medicine, one is antibiotics, and the other to control his illness which he would have to take permanently. He would be required to take in a type of special diet for Kidney problem cats, and would also need to be brought back to Vet Ho once every 3 months for review.

Ideally, prospective fosterer/adopter should have no other cats at home, if they have any, they should be aware of the risks of FIV transmitting (only through aggressive fighting +open wounds+exchange of fluids, or through mating), and take proper precautions. Scrumpy isn't aggressive at all, and he's spayed, so basically there won't be any possible fighting or mating problems caused by him.

Temperament wise, which is a huge bonus point of him, is that he's superly affectionate and loving, everytime I visit him he will come straight to me and let me pet his head and neck, and after a while he will got sooo cozy and simply just fall asleep...while standing lol. Vet Ho and vet techs there commented he's so gentle and nice that they have no problem feeding him meds or syringing him.

I will be letting Scrumpy stay at clinic till this Saturday (30 April), hopefully by then I would have found him a good home to go to, if all else fails, I might send him to a cat shelter, where he would be kept in a large cage permanently, that would be my very last option, coz he's not that sick and can't move, and being a community cat before, he would love to have some space to walk around and explore, he might require some guiding and coaching to be an indoor cat, but given his sweet loving nature, it definitely won't be a huge task to the caregiver.

His medical bills, which comprises hospitalisation since Sunday (24 April), comprehensive blood tests, drips, meds till today sums up to around 900+, a few more days of staying at the vet (till this coming Saturday 30 April) and doing more blood tests might up the amount to over $1200, me and some of my friends do think Scrump deserves a good second chance, so we would be raising money among ourselves to pay for this med bill.

If the prospective fosterer/adopter have concerns over medicine/special diet money for Scrumpy, we would definitely help out with it, we just hope he would go to a loving home and would shower him with loads of TLC, coz clearly he himself have loads to offer. :)

[rip] SOS! NEGATIVE DOG BLOOD/DONATIONS FOR PAPPY

Looking for blood negative dogs (Huskie, german shepards) and donations for Pappy's treament. (Currently at Heart to Heart Vet)

Hi everyone, we are currently looking for negative blood donor for our dog (rescued, owner couldn't pay boarding fee and wanted to bring him to spca).

Pappy is a sweet and gentle giant who is very sick. He has tick fever and his platelets were down to zero. He was so ill that he couldn't walk and was breathless, we were so worried that we will lose this sweet giant.

After a blood transfusion, he has now stabalised but as he is a large dog, his platelet count of 15% is not enough to sustain.

We are looking for donor dogs who are negative. Vet says negative blood is preferably for 2nd transfusion as it reduces the possibility of a reaction.

We are also looking for kind donations for pappy's treatment. His medical bill will likely be in thousands and the vet is asking for deposit of $800.00. We have so far raised $300.00.

For further information about us, you can read about us at http://communitypetcrusaders.blogspot.com/p/faq.html

[rip] FOSTER/SPONSOR VET FEES: Manja the female community cat w tumors in intestines

Manja is a community cat from under my block, her weight dropped drastically in two weeks. She used to be chubby and healthy, but a few days ago, I found her very skinny and dehydrated. She was eating/drinking, just not much.

I brought her to the vet (The Joyous Vet at Sunset Place, CCK) on Thursday, the outlook was not that great. Blood tests came out all fine, but the doctor felt a lot of lumps in her intestines, and have confirmed that it is cancer. She had to be hospitalised and put under IV because she was severely dehydrated. She is still at the clinic now.

The cost of the blood test was $80+, and each night at the vet would cost $18. Also, with the medication etc, I don't know how much it would cost me. I've paid a deposit of $200, but I have a grim feeling that it might cost more. I can update you with scans of the medical bills later.

Because she has cancer (tumors in her intestines), she doesn't have that much long to live. The doctor had said that she has, at most, 6 months to live. I already own 4 cats (1 of which just got sick), and I cannot take in anymore.

How You Can Help:
I hope to find someone who is willing to foster Manja for the remaining months that she has to live. I don't think putting her back out on the streets now is a good idea, and neither am I asking for someone to take her and provide her chemotherapy. I just hope someone would be willing to make the remainder of her life pleasant and peaceful.

I also hope to be able to receive donations to offset Manja's medical bills.

Even a shelter would be fine. if there is a shelter that is willing to take her, I wouldn't mind paying a monthly fee.

Thank you.

[rip] SPONSOR MEDICAL BILLS: Gentle Paws' Bobby with heartworm and kidney problems

This is an appeal for contributions to help to pay for Bobby's medical bill of $2948 incurred so far. He is scheduled to go back for more injections and follow-ups at the vet.

Bobby was diagnosed with heartworm, hospitalised and was scheduled to go for an operation.

However the op was aborted shortly after it started. It was found that Bobby's valves were blocked to the extent that the vet's forceps could not be inserted to remove the heart worms as planned.

Instead, the vet tapped Bobby's abdomen and drained over 10 litres of fluid from him. Bobby has to be on heart worm medicine for the rest of his life. He also has to undergo the draining process twice a week. His kidney was found to be weak and he will require kidney supplements

Bobby's story can be found here
http://gentlepaws2010.blogspot.com/2010/08/gentle-paws-closure-saturday-21-august.html
and
http://gentlepaws2010.blogspot.com/2010/08/on-bobby.html

We sincerely hope you can help with Bobby's medical bill as the dogs at the shelter depends solely on volunteers and contributions to fund the shelter.

Please transfer to POSB savings 126-840390 if you can and drop us an email thereafter with the details of your transfer so that we can validate and take note. Any amount is greatly appreciated and no amount is ever too small for us. Please let us know if you wish to have a look at the bill for any clarification as well.

Bobby is 1 of the oldest boy who stayed at a shelter ever since he was a young dog for about coming to 10years. During the first 8-9 years of his life as a shelter dog, he never got the chance to step out of shelter, never got to smell the earth & grass. Because little was known about him. He got very uptight when there were visits from unfamiliar faces especially those who wear spectacles. It was suspected that he could have been abused by his ex-owner who was bespectacled.

However, as times went by, Bobby learnt to trust human again and even got the chance to step on the moist soil that he was so deprived of.

I got the chance to bring him for his first walk ever out of shelter last year and it is very difficult till today to forget how he was so happy with simple and probably insignificant things to you & me like little wild flowers and the different types of grass by the roadside. His tail wagged so excitedly when he tried to play with the flowers, smelling and touching them with his paws.

From then on, Bobby looks forward to walks whenever there are volunteers around. Sometimes he would quietly come up to volunteers and rub them with his head to ask for a pat.

In the file bobby2009 you see, that was Bobby last year.

bobby2010 was during a walk this year, & he had this wrap around his belly because his abdomen swell so badly that it was causing him difficulties to walk but the good old boy insisted on walking...

Thanks once again for reading and please help us with this appeal.

Sincerely
Zan

Details:
Dot Dot was loved by his owner but we are not certain why she stopped visiting him and had since went missing for a long time.

In the meantime, until his owner has the ability to claim him back, we are sad to say that this poor chap will join the remaining dogs at the shelter to be put up for adoption.

An appeal to his owner who might be reading this advertisement. Can you PLEASE respond or kindly update us on your whereabouts? Dot Dot misses you a lot! If only you can see his sad looks on his face. We are certain he still longs for your touch and hugs.

Please get in touch with us ASAP. We hope that Dot Dot would be able to reunite with you one day. Abandonment is NOT the right solution to resolving problems.

[rip] ADOPT: Jerry the strong, handsome singapore boy

Gender: Male
Sterilised: Yes
Temperament: Good with dogs and humans.

Details:
Jerry's brother (Tom) died a couple of years ago due to sickness which affected all the dogs in shelter.

Handsome Jerry loves to escape from shelter especially when someone opens the gate. When he was young, the workers used to draw circles on Tom and his face which was quite hilarious but we guessed it was meant for fun only.

Do call us for viewing of handsome Jerry. We bet you will not be disappointed!

He makes a wonderful companion. A nice lovely pet.

Update as at 22 Nov 09:
Jerry began losing weight lately and was brought to the vet. A light 15.5kg which is uncommon for a dog his size.

He will undergo blood transfusion this morning and we need to monitor his condition for fear of "rejection" of blood by his body. He was also tested positive for tick fever (known as erhlichiosis) and possible heartworm. The same history as Smarty (who unfortunately, passed away 3 days ago).

Let's pray for the best...

Update as at 6 Dec 09:
Jerry is now recovering and under foster care. He puts on much weight as compared and is eating well.

He requires a foster home to care for him whilst he is still recuperating. The foster family has currently a handful of dogs to take care and might not have the ability to care for him in long term.

Please drop us an email if you can help to foster Jerry.

Jerry's next review with the vet will be in two wks' time.

Thank you!

A Tribute to Max
Zeus Communications, Thu 19 Aug 2010
http://zeuscommunications.blogspot.com/2010/08/tribute-to-max.html.

Max, a Bull Mastiff, passed away peacefully this morning at 9am, in the comfort of his home and in the loving arms of his owner, Ms CL. She had adopted him some years back and had given him the best of everything - from numerous car rides, to swims on the beach, to his very own swimming pool.

Max had tick fever slightly more than a month ago and despite two blood transfusions over the past week, he got weaker by the day and finally passed on this morning.

To all who knew Max, he was a gentle giant - he lived to play! Ball games, swimming - those were his greatest pleasures. And when Max came near you - be sure to scram because his saliva would definitely give you a refreshing foam bath.
