[resolved!] ADOPT: AJ the gentle female golden siberian husky

We are looking for a good home for AJ, our adopted female Siberian husky. She has a lovely gentle temperament but needs lots of exercise. Please contact us if you are a true dog lover. Reluctantly, we have to give AJ up for adoption as our own dog, a mongrel, is exceedingly jealous and would not tolerate the presence of another dog. What is AJ like?

- gentle, seldom barks

- needs lots of exercise

- loves to eat potatoes, meats, carrots, vegetables

- beautiful golden coat, and light brown eyes

- most beautiful feature - her tail - long, fluffy

- good with other dogs (it's my old dog who gives trouble and starts fights all the time).

Gender:- Male
Age:- abt 5yrs old
Breed:- Maltese
Paper trained:- Yes
Good with kids:- Yes

Finally got adopted to a really promising home. Found the adopter through cats classified and there were a few pleasant people who got back to me - could be a good way to reach out to potential adopters.

[rehomed!] Drinkin' Dunkin' Drippin' Pumpkin

-STUDENTS NEED NOT APPLY-

Pumpkin (1 yr 9 mth) is a rare Bear Coat Shar-pei. Sheds little. Fun and loving and can be goofy too!

Very, very good dog to keep. Dont really tug on walks. This breed rarely bark and only does it with strangers or being challenged.

Wont destroy things when left alone for 4-5 hours. Due to young age, will initiate play and super cute (he bounce!). Learns fast and food motivated.

Ex-owner didnt want him any more, either find him a new home or put down. Also deny him water all day except at meal time and they feed kibbles! So mean.

Lack socialisation, too friendly and might send the wrong message to other dogs/cats.

Due to the "structure" of the muzzle, after he lift his head from drink it will be like mop out of the bucket. Training him now to hold and wipe, he is learning fast. This be useful if there is someone at home all the time or wont be a problem if water is in yard-can water the plant! :)

Looking for a new family who dont mind his drinking pattern. A family with a garden for him to run. Or a penthouse owner who is willing to walk him twice daily.

Preferred owner who knows the breed or willing to learn how to care for the breed. Good to provide him with a fan or a very well sheltered and ventilated area. Might need to recheck Tyroid, last chek mild and vet need to review. This is a common sickness of the breed.

email: strathmorecats@hotmail.com

Reimburse sterilisation fee. Invoice will be provided.

Update Mon 17 May
Pumpkin had gone on his overnight stay on Sat with his family-to-be and it turn out not bad. We met at the condo’s garden and when Pogo the pug saw Pump, she was over joy. Very friendly and demanding (to play) she did get Pump a bit annoyed and Pump keep hiding behind me to keep away from this girl who is all over him! Hahah.

Uncle Wong is a recent retiree and with more time at hand and also wanting to get a company for Pogo, he decided to adopt another dog. He had kept a few different breeds before and never a Shar-pei and very keen on Pump once he met him. And the best thing for us is that Pump is also not unfriendly towards Pogo as he is not very keen on most other dogs-big or small alike.

Uncle Wong will be traveling soon to China hence Pump’s two weeks trial will only start after he is back. I am more than happy to keep him with us and will enjoy his company as much as we could. He was very happy when he was at mom’s gate waiting to get in. He kept wagging his tail and jumping to get to mom. Uncle Wong is very lucky to adopt him and I guess Pump is as lucky too to be with Uncle Wong and Pogo. After Sat trial Uncle Wong is going to install two ceiling fans for him; 1 in kitchen and another 1 in the hall. If Pump were to visit Uncle Wong’s daughter, he will have a big field to run with the horse (she owns a black horse) and two other dogs and some cats to play with. I hope he’ll be happy .

[resolved] ADOPT: Shepherd the 10yo male golden retriever with a limp

Shepherd, a 10-year old Golden Retriever, is up for adoption. Shepherd was an abandoned dog which someone found wandering outside a pet shop. He was then passed to a family to temporarily house him while they looked for a potential owner. During that time when Shepherd was with the family, they bonded with him and decided to keep him instead. He's been with that family for the last 7 years.

Shepherd is a fairly healthy dog. The only problem he has is a limp on his front legs. However, that has not hindered his movement as he loves to take lengthy walks. Shepherd's true age is unknown. Vets and groomers estimated him to be about 10 human years (he's young at heart). He's not neutered.

The family's decision to give Shepherd away is not an easy one, but one they have to make due to the current situation. Shepherd needs to be taken down for walks 3 times a day to relieve himself. He does not have a good control of his bladder. Both the father and son share this responsiblilty. However, the father had a couple of heart attacks and went through heart surgery and doctors forbid him to walk big dogs indefinitely. The son has been taking care of Shepherd, however, he is going back to school this July, which leaves practically no one to look after Shepherd and bring him for his walks.

Shepherd is a very friendly dog and loves people in general. He's quite ok with other dogs except sometimes with other male dogs.

If you can give Shepherd a good home, pls email band_110802@hotmail.com. Thank you.

Update Sun 16 May
Shepherd has ben diagnosed with malignant melanoma, a form of skin cancer. There is a tumour growing on his upper jaw and it has been bleeding profusely. He is now on medication which helps to stop the bleeding, smell and infection. The vet says he has only about 1-3 months to live. Due to the current situation, I think it is best that Shepherd remains with us for his remaining days.

[rehomed!] ADOPT: Jewel the 7mo female boxer beagle mix

She's estimated to be around 7 mths old, in good health, good with humans and dogs.

Pls contact 91027973 for more info.

*Not HDB approved and must sterilize and microchip.

[rehomed!] Shades of grey wherever I go - Mata the X-breed puppy

“Mata” stands for “eyes” in Malay. Many will say, for living beings, the eyes are windows to the soul. Have you ever been blindfolded, and led about? Know how it feels? Insecure, fearful and frustrating? How about being a stray, without food and water and shelter, and without your sense of sight too? One can only imagine the worst – an easy target for being rounded up, getting hurt by industrial tools or more often than not, becoming road kill.

Mata, as so he was named, was spotted by a volunteer on her routine feeding. Upon first sight, he looked fine when he came running out from his so-called home in a construction site. Due to the way he was moving, she presumed that he being protective of his food, as food was scarce being a stray. But when Mata finally looked up, she was taken aback to see that he had grayish eyes.

The volunteer moved closer to him, slowly patted him to get to know him. Being young and friendly, Mata simply wagged his tail, and gave her a few licks. The volunteer held Mata’s head up slightly higher, and took a close look at his eyes. Both his eyes were cloudy, and she could not see the pupils of his eyes. It looked as though he has lost his sight completely, but was still able to see vaguely when she did a simple eye test. The volunteer went back with a heavy heart, with images of Mata deeply etched in her heart.

The next week came about and Mata’s eyes seemed to have gotten worse. He stood far inside the construction site waiting, wagging his tail upon sensing the excitement from his fellow siblings, but did not know who or what it was about. The volunteer called out to him a couple of times and his ears twitched and tail wagged even faster, but it took a while for him to gradually venture out to the entrance.

The volunteer decided that she could not leave him in the lurch. He was a happy five month old puppy and had a good ten years or more ahead of him. Perhaps “good” is not such an appropriate word, as all of us know just how harsh the life of strays are. But how could she close both her eyes, and move on knowing that he will not last very long in this state? Feeling unsettled, the volunteer decided to bring him to the vet.

Being young and trusting, he was easily caught and the volunteer was extremely thankful for that. She brought him to Mt Pleasant Sunset Way and along the way, though nervous and salivating as this was probably his first car ride, the volunteer could hear his tail wagging – it was thumping against the side of the carrier whenever he was called. Such a sweet boy!

To our delight, Dr Heng who examined Mata informed us that Mata was actually not totally blind yet. The cloudiness in his eyes are caused by parasitic infection or bacterial infection, but as Mata was a stray, the doctors will not know what is the exact cause of his loss of sight as there could be many unknown factors unless we run numerous, costly tests on him. However, Mata actually still has some sight left; but it is like looking through a frosted glass – meaning he can only see vague images.

Nonetheless, most cases are curable and with proper medication and application of eyedrops, the cloudiness should clear in a few weeks. We literally jumped in joy when we heard that. However, Mata was also diagnosed as anemic, which wasn't hard to cure, and was prescribed medicine to treat that as well.

The volunteer delightfully brought Mata home from the vet, and bathed him for the very first time in his life. So many fleas and ticks came out with the bath, poor boy. He was surprisingly calm during the bath, and he certainly looked lighter colored after that!

The volunteer brought Mata to the fosterer’s place, where Mata was introduced to the fosterer’s resident dog at a park near her place first before Mata was brought into her house.

The silly boy greeted everyone with his happy wag and sniffed around curiously, checking out the place. The fosterer was very kind to let Mata sleep in her resident dog’s bed which was currently not being used, and Mata fell asleep within minutes! Guess he must have been tired out from all the traveling and bathing. What a baby!

Current update: Mata is available for adoption! He is 5-6 months old now, vaccinated and garden trained. Friendly, loyal and fun loving (as all puppies are). If you are interested, please call Ruth @ 96314050.

FEED/STERILISE/DONATE: Cats at Newton Food Centre

A caregiver who had lived in Singapore for over 2 years had been helping her friend feed and sterilise strays in the area close to Newton Food Centre. As she has moved back to the USA, the remaining caregivers are struggling to keep the cats fed and maintained. As we understand, there are about 50 cats remaining in the area between Newton Road, Monk's Hill Road and Winstedt Road.

Furthermore, there are 3 individuals who have been tormenting the cats:
* a man has been throwing rocks at the cats and destroying the food left for them;
* a schoolboy has been terrorising the cats;
* a lady has been physically threatening and verbally abusing the young feeders.
How You Can Help:

We are urgently looking for caregivers who can help tend to the cats around the Newton Food Centre area by:

* Feeding the cats on rotation

* Sterilising any un-neutered cats in the area.

* Sponsoring / Donating towards the cost of sterilising these cats.

If you are able to assist, please contact Melissa at melissa@catwelfare.org

[rehomed!] ADOPT: 4.5yo male german shepherd and 3.5yo male golden labrador by mid-May

I am sending this email as part of my effort to help these two dogs. The current owners are unable to keep them anymore for logistic reasons.

The German Shepherd is 4.5 years old and the Golden Labrador, 3.5 years old. Both dogs are males, vaccinated but not sterilised. They are lovable and good tempered, and are generally healthy.

If you know of anyone who might be keen to adopt either or both of them, please help forward this email. They need to get adopted soon because as of mid May 2010, they will be without a home.

If these two are not adopted, they will be sent to SPCA and there is a high likelihood of them being put to sleep.

Please help do all we can to save their lives.

I am contactable at:
markyncw@gmail.com

Best regards,

Mark Ng

[rehomed!] ADOPT: 4 x 1.5yo chinchillas - 2 male, 2 female

I have 4 Chins with me since 2001 and they're one family. I'm looking for Pet Lovers who could adopt them as I'll be away for 1.5 years. They are 2 TOV & 2 Beige, 2 male & 2 female where we've got a customised cage for them to let go together. They've been very healthy over the years and we're looking for owners who are fine with their age and are committed to take care of the family.

Update Sat 1 May
Hi,
Once again, thank you for those who had responded to this earlier. ...

To avoid unscrupulous acts against the adopted animals, I’ll be conducting a pre-screening of all potential adopters via Email lynncheong2002@gmail.com
Hence, would appreciate if you could take some time to reply my queries as follows.

1) What is it that interests you in adopting a Chinchilla?
2) What is your experience in taking care of pets? (Any pets. Past & present experience.)
3) What will be your commitment towards the adopted Chin if you were the selected adopter?
4) What information would you like me to furnish you with about my 4 Chins?

Lastly, I hope you would not mind about this pre-screening which I felt is a need so as to protect the interest of the animals especially when they’ve been with my family for 10 years.

[rehomed!] ADOPT: Girly the cat who fell into a deep canal

Girly was rescued on an early morning from a deep canal. We heard mewing coming from a fenced-off construction site but couldn't find her. A few hours later, she appeared and unknowlingly ran headon towards an adult cat. This got a big shock & promptly toppled into the canal.

Puts up a fiesty appearance but really very gentle and adorable. Her demeanour changes immediately when someone starts stroking her. A little bit passive compared to other kittens but still very playful. In good health.

About 5-6 weeks old. Female, orange/brown tortie/calico.
Medium-short tailed

FEED/RELOCATE/STERILISE: Cats at Kim Chuan Drive

[Originally posted on Cat Welfare Society, 23 Jan 2010]

There are about 20 strays cats near No. 45 Kim Chuan Drive and they are extremely skinny and unsterilised. The cats have no water and food. The aunty who spotted them last week is willingly to sponsor food for the cats and had tried approaching and pleaded the foreign workers and the eatery house workers to feed them on behalf. Her request was rejected by them.

Aunty does not dare to call SPCA as she is worried that they will be put down.

Hence, we are appealing for volunteers around the areas to feed the cats and also relocate and sterilise them. We can chip in for the food and the sterilisation cost. What's important now is to ensure someone can feed them or they might die of hunger or thirst. After which, we need to relocate them and sterilise them.

If you are able to help in any way, please contact Bee Leng at 91760514 or the Aunty at 91783236. Contact specialappeals@catwelfare.org to find out more. Thanks!

FEED: Cats at Telok Blangah Block 4 - Call Rashida 94659421.

There are about 8 cats at Telok Blangah Crescent Block 4 and the only feeder has appealed to me for help in feeding the cats. As I do not stay in that area, I am unable to help her feed the cats regularly.

If you can help, please contact Rashida at 94659421.

Update Thu 29 Apr
The 13 kittens on St John's Island are still urgently seeking fosterers and adopters, or risk being culled if they are not rehomed.

There are also a total of 12 adult cats on the island that need to be sterilised a.s.a.p.

We are appealing urgently for:
1) Fosterers or adopters for the 13 kittens
2) Sponsors for the sterilisation of the 12 cats
2) Assistance in trapping the cats, transporting them, etc.

Should you be able and interested in assisting in any of the above, kindly contact us via email at veron@catwelfare.org, melissa@catwelfare.org and eliena1104@yahoo.com.sg

Thank you!

[Source: http://catwelfare.org/node/2476, Thu 29 Apr]

Update Sat 1 May
It can cost around $60 to $130 to sterilise each cat, depending on the gender and the clinic. Due to the urgent nature of the case, it's unlikely that there'll be any subsidised slots available, as these have to be booked way in advance. Do contribute if you can - every little bit helps.

[rehomed!] ADOPT: Jay Jay the 5yo male shih tzu - no pix available

Status: For Adoption

Breed: Shih Tzu

Name: Jay Jay? (New owner free to change)

Age: 5

Gender: Male

Spayed/Neutered: Unsure

Reason for Being Given Up:

Good with Children: No info

Good with Dogs: Current fosterer has a maltese that does not get along with the dog. But it could be the fault of the maltese.

Good with other animals: No info

Dog's Temperament: He looks very active and friendly but apparently very clingy.

Dog's Problems: None, apparently.

Ideal Owner: Any

Ideal Home: Any

Other information:

Member putting up this adoption notice: Fosterer's Neighbour (!)

Contact: PM

Adoption Fee: $100 to be donated to a Charity Organization of my choice (yup, my choice. Yay.)

The dog is really bright and alert and looks really friendly. It's got long and shaggy fur now and is coloured white and beige, I think.

My neighbour approached me, asking if I know of anyone who would like a dog.

I'm pretty stringent with the adoption process so don't think you'll be able to make a quick buck out of adopting and selling or breeding to sell.

PM Ensel on the doggiesite link below.

Update Sat 8 May

[rehomed!] FOUND/ADOPT: Boy Boy the black and tan mini pinscher (Dakota Crescent, Sun 21 Mar)

A male mini pinscher, colour black & tan was found last night (Sun 21 Mar) at Dakota Crescent at around 10pm.

If you are the rightful owner or wish to adopt this dog, please contact Ray at 91027973.

[Original post, Mon 22 Mar: http://www.petschannel.com/forum/?page=topic&topicID=16007]

Update Tue 13 Apr
Boy Boy's owner cannot be traced, so we are putting him up for adoption.

He is estimated to be 8 months old by the vet, is microchipped and no issues with health.

He is friendly to both humans and dogs and cats, a manja boy and has a good temperament. He is a smart and obedient boy, learns command pretty fast. He only responds to "No" initially but now he knows a couple of commands. He loves to eat, totally not fussy.

He is hyperactive, good to bring for walks daily. Min pins barks pretty loudly as opposed to their small size, he is a good watchdog, sensitive to noises outside house, not advisable if you do not have good neighbours, however he listens to command.

Want to find a good home for min pin, preferably someone who understands the breed well or one with experience with dogs.

If you are keen to adopt min pin and know about him, please contact 91513071 or email bayliecorner@gmail.com.

Update Sat 8 May
Boy Boy has been adopted.
